It was over 25 years ago that a group of people got together to organise Quedgeley's celebrations for the Queen's Silver Jubilee. They enjoyed themselves so much that they decided to continue the task of arranging social events, sponsoring community groups and generally doing anything that would be of benefit to the people of Quedgeley. And so the Quedgeley Village Trust was born. It became Quedgeley Community Trust when it was felt that Quedgeley had outgrown the original "village" status, but its' purpose in life remained the same. Over the years, the Trust has run discos for the children, organised fireworks parties and barbecues, and now of course every month it’s trading subsidiary Quedgeley News Limited produces the “Quedgeley News”, which is delivered free to over 5600 homes in Quedgeley by an army of volunteers.
The Trust's main community event each year is the Quedgeley Show; it is not like the large horticultural shows with the "professional amateurs" exhibiting 12-LB onions and 6-ft runner beans. It is a friendly show, which anyone can enter with various classes form vegetables and plants to flowers, arts and crafts and cakes and wines.
Since October 2005 the Trust has taken over the management and running of Quedgeley Health and Club at Severnvale School for the benefit of both the school and the local community.
Membership of Quedgeley Community Trust is open to everyone in Quedgeley (with Associate membership for Hardwicke) and the committee is happy to welcome anyone who is willing to work with us and shares our aims.
Quedgeley Community Trust is not part of the Parish Council, not funded by them in any way, have no connections with the Parish Council, and they have no control over the Trust in the way in which it operates. We do however give the Parish Council one page per month in our magazine, as a means for them to keep the people of Quedgeley up to date as to what they are doing. This we do as so few people attend Parish Council meetings and is done at no cost to the Council or to you the precept payers.
We are an independent registered charity, the surplus money that we raise is ours to do with as our management committee and the charity commissioner feel is correct for a charity of our size. We use the surplus money by giving grants to Quedgeley based organisations and many have benefited.
We are not based and never have been based at the Parish office and all telephone calls or correspondence appertaining to Quedgeley Community Trust should be sent to our Secretary. Matters to do with Quedgeley News should be directed to the Editor.
The Quedgeley news web site was designed and maintained by John Kilmister who took over the role in 2004 and is hosted by better webspace.
At this time the original design was replaced with a red design to match the look and feel of the magazine and new features were introduced such as the PDF back issues. In February 2008 the design was updated again to reflect the change in magazine design to what you see today. As part of the revamp additional photographs and a search feature were added to the site.
