I used to go every weekend to Manor Farm in Quedgeley, to visit my schoolfriends Annie and Mary Phipps (Denmark Road High School for Girls). This would have been about 1974, 5. I'd love to contact them again - does anyone have any e-mail details?

Hello all,

does anyone know if Kingsway/Quedgely will be getting fibre optic broadband installed whilst most of the roads have not been tarmaced. Also is there any scope to add more shops onto the estate and a health centre/leisure centre as the nearest one is GL1.

My father Jim Brown lived at Sandy Ridge (a smallholding, I think) in the 1940s and was a driver for RAF Quedgeley. I have no other info but would love to know if anyone knew or remembers him and where Sandy Ridge might have been.

My Grandad owned the post office stores on the Bristol road until just before tescos was built, when he took early retirement. (George and May Milford ) I went to the infants school where the community centre now is. I used to love the big roundabout with the brook and the trees before the huge junction was built.

To Sue (who's lived in Quedgeley 18 years)Did you ever find out which was the post office in Quedgeley ?When I came to live in quedgeley(1981) it was in the house opposite Warners petrol station and there was mike phillips (news & general store )next door (Tescos wasnt built until 1984 ) but I was once told I lived in the house that was post office before (285 Bristol Road)and our phone no was 72(being quedgeley code)0001 which sounds possible being the first phone at the post office for telegrams etc I moved out in 1987 but have still in Quedgeley !

Please does anyone remember my aunt Miss Minnie Lord? She was a teacher at Quedgeley Primary School when Mary Owen was headmistress, and then became Head herself. They lived at Field Farm? Thank you!

Just read the Feb 2012 edition; great to see another article by Richard Cale. My family came to Quedgeley in 1886 from Gloucester. My Great Grandfather, Edgar Veal, was born in Quedgeley, as was my Grandad, John Veal. My Great Aunty Betty used to ring the church bells.

(49) Revd Paul Lanham

I was brought up in the vast ancient Rectory down School Lane beside the church; my father Revd F.J.Lanham was Rector from 1947-1961 (Lanham Gardens was named after him). At the time Quedgeley was a village, and I had a near idyllic childhood playing in the fields during school holidays, endlessly watching boats on the canal at the Pilot Inn (before they built the oil terminal) and allowed to cycle anywhere for hours - no fears for our safety as children! I worked at 7MU for a few months before we went to Gloucester and I went to university. I married a Brockworth girl in 1968 and we have two very pro-Gloucestershire daughters. I am now a very active retired priest, having followed by father into the Church. I remember Quedgeley with enormous affection but have not been back for 50 years, preferring to remember it as it was (I have a number of snapshots taken with my Brownie box camera!). I seem to remember I was at Quedgeley School with Richard Cale sixty years ago. Happy memories! Reminded of Quedgeley by an advert for a new vicar in the Church Times today!

I've recently discovered that my gt gt grandfather was a native of Quedgeley who found work with the GWR and moved to Shropshire in the 1850s. I'd very much welcome any info about the James family; I think that they may have originated in Elmore. Great e-mag btw. Cheers, Grant

Having spent most of my early life in Quedgeley, I love reading Quedgeley news whenever I can get hold of a copy. I know Richard Cale well and always interested in his articles, which usually bring back happy memories. My father was Owen Charles, the local postman, from1932 to 39 and then again after the war, from 1945 until 1958.

I was just thinking because this is the homw town of Moto2 rider scott Redding that maybe you should start to promote more of him, as he needs more funding for the season! Maybe helping him out with a bit of cash or something. Be proud of the local boy. He's the one putting you on the map!

I was born in 1970 and I lived in 55 Caravan, Cole Avenue. Apparently there were two caravan sites on Cole Avenue from 1967. Did anyone else live in one of the caravans? Does anyone remember them or have any pictures or information? Many thanks.

I;m trying to create my family tree and would be grateful for any local knowledge! My great-grandmother Rosa Taylor was a teacher at Quedgeley School in the 1920s and lived in 'the Hive'. Does anyone know if this house still exists or do you have any more information?

(29) Lucy Mason

I've recently moved into the area and I have to say, I've found the Quedgeley news an absolute hive of information. Without this, we would have come unstuck!! Thanks QN.

Every month I read Quedgeley News, hoping to see one of Richard Cale's wonderful tales of life in Quedgeley past. Every month I'm dissapointed. Please include some of Richard's stuff. He's been very helpful finding pictures of the Veal family that used to live in the village from the 1880's to the 1950's. He is a mine of information.

We will be moving to Quedgeley next week, and have only been there once before to find a house and school. We are moving to be near family, which will be a big surprise as we have not told them yet. Your magazine and website has been great to find out what is on and where things are. So thank you for keeping it so well informed and hopefully our move will be easier now that we know more about Quedgeley.

(25) Sue

I have lived in Quedgeley for 18 years now and read the Quedgeley News without fail every month. The team must work very hard to provide all the useful information. I was very interested in the history of Quedgeley on the site and wondered if a guide could be done (as if you don't have enough to do already!!!) telling us about the remaining buildings and what they were in the past. I read in one of your issues about the old post office being in a house down the Bristol Rd and would love to know which one it was, etc.

The mention of Prisoners of War at RAF Quedgely has cleared up where my father was "guarding" POWs during WW2. I knew he was at Quedgeley when I was born (1948) but always wondered where the POW camp was. Problem solved for my Family History! Thanks very much.

I've been doing a family tree for my friend, whose great-grandmother was a long-time resident of Quedgeley. Not only did I thoroughly enjoy visiting the village and church, a chance email to the Quedgeley News asking if they had any info. on Annie Elizabeth Oliver (nee Ryder) led to a whole host of wonderful information and photos dropping through my letter box. Many thanks to a fantastic Editor, Sandra, and the wonderful Caroline Meek who generously gave so much of her time to photographing and collating information for me.

Loved the site. I lived at Quedgeley House in the 1970's as a child, and went to the primary school. I have traced many of my grandmother's family - the Hoopers (corn dealers) Vallenders (farmers) and Arch family back to 1800 Quedegely. Would love info on The White House on the Bristol Road or Birch House.

This is a brilliant local history and it would be wonderful if every village or ward in the city had one like it. Particularly interesting to anyone like me, once upon a time an RAF officer. Please can we put a preservation order on the Quedgeley News so that it never stops! Richard
